About Tim Swiggum
Tim Swiggum was raised in a military family with nine siblings and graduated from Monroe High School in 1983 before serving three years in the military. After serving his country, Tim attended the University of Missouri-Columbia. Tim and his wife Karen were married in 1991. Karen has been teaching for over 34 years and currently works at Thorp High School. Their daughter, Rebecca is 16 and a junior in high school.
Since September 1993 Tim has been a small businessman, operating several restaurants. The most recent was the Blackhawk Country Inn in Owen, which Tim owned and operated from 1998 until 2006. Tim is in his 4th term as Mayor of the City of Owen. In his tenure, Tim has worked to engage the community so together they can make Owen a better place. After many years of stagnant growth, Owen has laid the foundation for an economic comeback. Tim has worked to increase economic development, improve the parks system, and has begun work to organize a local Chamber of Commerce.
In seven short years, Tim has helped grow the tax base by over 50%. Tim has lead the way for the City of Owen to grow from $24 million net value to more than $36 million. This will certainly continue as the Badger Ag Solutions Soy Oil processing facility is currently under construction. Tim has also helped bring over 100 new jobs to the Owen-Withee area. This is "REAL" economic development experience that we need throughout the district.
Tim is the current mayor of the City of Owen and serves on many organizations:
- Vice President of the Clark County Economic Development Board
- Clark County Tourism Board
- United Communities of Clark County
- Highway 29 Partnership
- Clark County United Way Vice President
- House of Friends Board Member
